Lafayette Speeding Ticket? Let Us Review Your Options

Updated October 4, 2026.

If you received a speeding ticket in Lafayette, send our lawyers the citation before assuming an online payment is the only option. The issuing agency and court matter, as do your license circumstances and the date on the paperwork.

Lafayette city and parish procedures are different

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says its ticket-payment instructions do not apply to violations issued by Lafayette City Police or Lafayette City Marshals. Those are processed through Lafayette City Court. Using the wrong system can leave you uncertain whether the ticket has actually been addressed.

We start with the citation itself. Send every page showing the agency, court, ticket number, charges and deadline. If the wording is unclear, our team can check which office handles the matter rather than applying a rule based only on the city name.

What a lawyer may be able to accomplish

For eligible speeding cases, we commonly pursue an amendment to a non-moving violation. The aim is to avoid a moving conviction on the driving record. The prosecutor or court must approve the result; a first ticket or clean history does not guarantee approval.

The applicable fine and court costs generally still remain, and our legal fee is separate. Dismissal is not the routine outcome. We explain the proposed resolution and any remaining conditions before you decide how to proceed.

Tell us what has already happened

  • Have you paid any amount or entered a plea?
  • Have you appeared in court or received another notice?
  • Is an appearance or response date close or already past?
  • Do you hold a commercial or out-of-state license?
  • Are there other charges or tickets we should know about?

An allegation of 25 mph over does not let us predict a license outcome from that fact alone. We review the actual charge, applicable requirements and history. Avoid relying on generic online points charts or another driver’s experience.

You do not need to build a case yourself

If you disagree with the ticket, describe the facts and preserve existing footage. We can assess whether the evidence raises an issue and whether a negotiated resolution is available. Do not alter the original recording or put yourself at risk taking roadside photographs.

A course is not an automatic substitute for representation. Louisiana’s driver-improvement provisions have conditions; let us check whether a court-approved program has a role before you pay a provider.

Protect the deadline

Sending an inquiry does not change a court date. Our team will confirm whether we can accept the matter and whether a personal appearance remains necessary.

send us your ticket, contact our traffic-ticket team or call (225) 327-1722. We can explain the proposed legal work once we have the paperwork.
