A traffic-related license suspension can involve both the court and OMV. Our attorneys can review the underlying ticket and the court steps needed to address it. Do not drive if your privileges are suspended; a future expiration date on the plastic license does not prove that your current driving privileges are valid.
Non-moving amendment or dismissal—or your attorney’s fee back. If we accept your speeding-ticket case and obtain neither result, we refund your full attorney’s fee. Court fines and costs are separate. Read our fee-refund promise and what representation covers.
Send the notice so we can review the court issue
- Send us the ticket, court orders and any OMV notice you already have. A completed record search is not a prerequisite to requesting help.
- Tell us which state issued your license and what restriction or notice concerns you. Avoid putting sensitive license details in a public comment or general inquiry.
- Our attorneys assess the underlying traffic case, current court orders and the court work needed. An insurance issue or another licensing restriction may require separate attention.
- We explain any further documents needed and distinguish the court work we undertake from OMV’s separate administrative requirements.
If a result is unclear or a restriction remains, confirm the requirements with OMV before driving. Send our team relevant court notices so we can assess the traffic-court work involved.
What the OMV status and court file show
The OMV Drivers page links to the Driver’s License Status Inquiry and an Official Driving Record request. The status inquiry can identify flags, blocks, suspensions, or disqualifications affecting a transaction. A driving record serves a related but different purpose: it shows the reported driving history.
Send us any OMV notice and court paperwork. Our team can review the related traffic case and explain which court work falls within representation and which administrative requirements remain with OMV.
Find the reason for each restriction
The reason for the restriction determines the response. Court-related problems, insurance requirements, and impaired-driving restrictions do not share one reinstatement procedure. We review the underlying traffic matter and help identify the separate issues requiring attention.
R.S. 32:414 addresses grounds for suspension and revocation. Our review uses the actual notice and court disposition to assess the underlying traffic case, rather than guessing from the age or amount of a ticket.
If a missed traffic-court date is involved
R.S. 32:57.1 provides a notice process after a missed written promise to appear. The notice period does not extend the original court date. Our team can check the case status and assess the court action needed to address the missed appearance.
Keep receipts and written proof of the court’s action. Paying a court balance is not, by itself, proof that every separate OMV requirement or unrelated restriction has been resolved.
Why the current reinstatement requirements matter
Act 666 of 2026, effective August 1, changed R.S. 32:414(F)(2) to provide reinstatement upon full payment of the OMV fees and fines that caused the action, with proof of payment. It excludes impaired-driving violations under R.S. 14:98. The actual restriction and applicable OMV requirements still need case-specific review.
OMV’s requirements may involve documents and conditions beyond payment. Our team explains the court disposition and related documents from the work we handle; OMV determines whether the applicable administrative requirements have been satisfied.
Confirm completion before driving
- Our attorneys assess the underlying traffic case and required court action.
- We explain relevant court orders, releases, or compliance documents.
- Any separate OMV requirements must also be satisfied.
- Driving privileges should be confirmed before driving resumes.
