Lafayette Speeding Ticket Lawyer
The first decision after a Lafayette traffic stop is which court handles the citation. Lafayette City Police tickets and parish/state matters do not necessarily use the same office or payment system.
City Court and Sheriff payment instructions are different
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s ticket-payment page expressly excludes tickets issued by Lafayette City Police or the City Marshal; those are processed through Lafayette City Court. Match the issuing agency and court before using a payment link.
Lafayette City Court’s traffic page lists 105 East Convent Street and (337) 291-8720. Its telephone menu directs callers to the Traffic Violations Bureau or Criminal/Traffic department. The court also links to its current payment and driving-record resources.
What to confirm with the correct office
- Which charges the quoted balance resolves and whether payment records a plea.
- Whether the citation requires a personal appearance or another response.
- The exact response date and how to obtain a receipt or case-status confirmation.
- Whether a requested amendment or program needs approval before payment.
If you disagree with the ticket
Keep the complete citation, existing video and other relevant records. Identify the specific disputed fact—such as the vehicle, location or measurement—rather than relying on a generic claim that a sign or clerical error always defeats a ticket. Our defense-review guide explains how to organize the evidence.
If a court date has passed or you have already paid, say so when you request help. Those facts can change the available next steps.
What an amendment would mean
Our usual objective for an eligible ticket is an amendment to a non-moving violation, with the goal of protecting your driving record and insurance. Dismissal is uncommon in our practice. The fine and court costs remain payable, and our legal fee is separate. The available resolution depends on the charge, driver and court; it is not guaranteed.
Compare an amendment, dismissal and an approved course before deciding how to resolve the original charge.
Send the information needed for a review
- A clear photo of the complete citation and any later court notice.
- The court date or response deadline, and whether it has already passed.
- Your license state, CDL status, other charges and any payment or plea already made.
